“Boundaries : A series by JY”
Updated: Nov 27, 2021
This pandemic. It has touched all of us, forcing rapid adaptation to habits and behaviours that sometimes appear to go against our better nature. Humans are intensely social creatures and this invisible force has made many of our bonds strengthen in common purpose or fray upon differences in belief and the primal drive for self preservation. Under the masks forced on us our feelings are hidden as we attempt to adapt to conflicting tangents in our lives as conditions pull, twist and tear at us causing the distance between us to expand.
Boundary. It is the one word that looms in my mind as I consider life in these times. We break them or we make them. There are no vacuums. We fill them with the parts of ourselves cropped out by life behind our masks. Still, there is too much to easily contain behind a boundary. As in an energy system nothing can be destroyed, merely transformed into new but remarkably still recognisable patterns; a loved one radiates love and my love naturally radiates back creating a circular flow of energy.
This energy is of our very nature, far too powerful to be contained by the artificial construct that is a boundary. Art is the embodiment of love and love is the embodiment of courage.
With this collection I open my heart to the future with all the uncertainty that may bring. I seek to dissolve all boundaries that our energies may spill over and into each other once again.
